Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 September 2026
This policy explains what Farmiglia collects, what other travelers can see, and what stays on your account. Location is something you set. It is not continuous tracking.
1. Who we are
Farmiglia is the travel companion described on this website. Privacy questions and requests go to [email protected]. The support inbox is on our existing mail system while email for this domain is set up separately.
2. What we collect
- Account details: email address, sign-in method (email, Google, or Apple), and email verification state.
- Identity you provide: name, one photo, and date of birth. Other members see your name, photo, and age. They do not see your date of birth.
- Places you set: a current place and places you are interested in. You choose these. We do not collect background or continuous GPS.
- Role in a city: Travel Friend, or an Advisor application and its review outcome.
- Advisor verification files: government ID and the proof you submit for a city, used to review that role.
- What you do in the product: requests, accept or decline, private messages after an accept, tips you write or save, and destination rooms you join.
- Safety records: blocks, reports, and moderation decisions.
- Support messages you send us.
- Technical data needed to run the service: device and app information, push notification tokens if you allow them, and standard server logs such as IP address and time of a request.
Browsing a city to look at people or tips does not, by itself, publish that city as your location.
3. What other people see
On a card in a city where you are visible:
- Your photo, name, and age.
- Your role there: Advisor or Travel Friend.
- Tips you publish for that place, with your name and age on the tip.
They do not get a profile page. They do not see your email, your date of birth, your verification documents, or your private messages with anyone else. A chat exists only after a request is accepted. A destination room shows you to people who also joined that room.
A presence line may show a count of people currently in a destination. It is a number, not a list of names.
4. How we use information
- To create and protect your account, including email verification and sign-in.
- To show you people, tips, and rooms for places you choose, and to show you to others only under the role rules.
- To deliver requests, messages, and push notifications you have allowed.
- To review Advisor applications.
- To investigate reports, enforce the terms, and protect members, including child-safety obligations.
- To answer support email.
- To keep the service reliable and to understand, in aggregate, what is breaking.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your messages to train a public advertising profile.
5. Legal bases
Where privacy law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performing the contract with you (running the account and the product), legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and understanding failures, balanced against your rights), consent where we ask for it (such as optional notifications), and legal obligation (including safety reports we are required to make).
6. Who we share with
- Other members, limited to what section 3 describes.
- Infrastructure that hosts the app, database, file storage for photos, email delivery, and push notifications.
- Sign-in providers you choose (Google or Apple), under their own policies, for authentication only.
- A payments provider, if you later buy something. There is no paid upgrade in the product today.
- Authorities, when the law requires a report or a lawful request, including child-safety reports.
- Moderators and support staff acting for Farmiglia, only as needed to review a case.
If a processor is outside your country, we use the safeguards the law requires for that transfer, such as standard contractual clauses where they apply.
7. How long we keep it
We keep account data while the account is open. If you ask us to close it, we delete or de-identify what we can. We retain what we still need for safety investigations, legal claims, or a required report — for example a child-safety record or a ban that must not be walked around with a new account. Verification documents are kept for the review and for a limited period afterward so a decision can be audited. Server logs rotate on a shorter cycle.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct your name or other account details.
- Delete your account and associated personal information, subject to the retention rules above.
- Export a copy of information you provided.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw a consent you gave.
- Complain to a data protection authority.
Email [email protected] from the address on the account. We may need to confirm it is you. You can also block another member in the product, and you can turn off push notifications in your device settings.
9. Children
Farmiglia is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children. If we learn an account belongs to a minor, we close it. Child sexual abuse material is illegal; we do not store it as a product feature, and we report it as described in Trust & safety.
10. Security
We use access controls, encrypted transport, and limited staff access. No service is perfectly secure. Use a unique password and protect the email account you signed up with.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be flagged in the product or by email where we reasonably can.
12. Contact
